South west will not suffer if north decide to block supply.

There have been quick assertion and early judgment on how the Southern part of Nigeria will suffer if the North blocks food importation to their end.

We are going to take a look at some of the resources they have at the moment.

In the South-west, cocoa-producing states include Ondo, Oyo, Osun Ogun and Ekiti where farmers either operate on inherited field or operate a share cropping system in which two-thirds of the produce accrues to the land owner who also contributes to purchase of farming input.

Ondo is rated the largest cocoa producing state with an output capacity of about 77,000 tons per annum. Other producing states include Cross River, Kwara, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Abia, Rivers, and Adamawa. It is important to know that after oil and gas exports, the largest revenue earners, cocoa beans, are the second most exported commodity.

Agriculture provides income and employment for more than 75% of the population of Ekiti State. Some of agricultural produce in the state are: cash crops such as cocoa, oil palm, kolanut, plantain, bananas, cashew, citrus and timber; arable/food crops such as rice, yam, cassava, maize and cowpea.

Having a quick look at the SouthEast, Yam is the most important crop and the staple food of the Igbo people. They have an abundance of yam output in Nigeria.

Investing more in yam plantation will only get them extra distinct success.

Cassava has over the years, become the pre-eminent food crop of the Igbo southeastern part of Nigeria. The Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO) recorded that cassava ranks as the seventh-largest table in the world.

Taking us down memory lane, Five years ago, A farmer at Imo State known as Frank Obodo harvested big tubers of cassava from his farm.

According to him back then he said one cassava weighs 30kg.

This massive farm produce shows that the Igbo land is not worse for farming.

Enugu has a high rate of women farmers who are so hardworking and diligent in their labor.

And then lastly let’s take a look at an affluent country in the world, the United Arab Emirates can be likened to a desert they have limited agricultural products, importing 85 percent of their food.

Still, they are not hungry, they have oil, they are the wealthiest, the most progressive, majorly through Crude Oil.

The North can use its autocratic power to terminate its agricultural allowances to the South but this will never determine their future or state of well-being, this will only make the South grow more and boost their farm commodity
